Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Success also indicates he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on court had caused some to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
