Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident left him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
